Charlie Sheen HIV Update: Actor Vows to Help Find a Cure
Following last month's revelation that he has been diagnosed some years back with HIV, Charlie Sheen is on a journey toward finding a cure that will not only help him but others suffering from the disease.
The National Enquirer first revealed the news, which probably forced the Hollywood star to come out clean on national television after his status was unveiled. While it should have been normal for a busted star to get irate over being revealed before coming out to the public, it seems Sheen didn't harbor hard feelings toward the tabloid.
According to Fox News, Sheen talked to the same outlet that slammed him and his condition and expressed how he now feels about all the events that transpired in the past month.
Referring to his closely guarded secret that only a few people knew of for the past couple of years, he said he now feels much lighter having the burden taken off his shoulder, adding that, "I realized afterward, I wish I had possibly done it sooner."
When almost the entire world was without knowledge that he was HIV positive, he used to spend thousands to keep people from revealing his dark secret. This time, he is planning to use his wealth to help find a cure not only for himself but for other people affected.
"If anybody can fight this thing and discover a cure, it's me. I will exhaust every resource available to me. I will sit with every expert. I will move forward until something's revealed," he firmly stated.
In his plan's time line, one of the first steps written down is to find a way to make medication and treatment more affordable for the general population. He said he spends about $4,000 per month and understands that not everyone is able to afford HIV medication. He hopes that through his research and with the help of experts, he can come up with a more efficient way for HIV positive people to get treatment without spending too much.
Sheen is still undergoing treatment and is receiving a lot of support and love from his family and friends, despite the rage of some people who feel betrayed by his secret.
