Charlie Sheen Slur 'Homophobic?' Actor Blames Lisp

Charlie Sheen has denied making an offensive remark after being accused of a "homophobic" slur at the weekend.

The actor was in Mexico over the weekend to open his new bar, called "Epic." The nightspot is located within a popular Mexican resort in Los Cabos called El Gonzo. On Friday a celebration was held for the grand opening, which included a number of well-known acts. Guns 'N' Roses guitarist, Slash, was among the entertainers; Los Angeles mayor Antonio Villaraigosa also attended the event.

"Chilling @hotelelganzo and this place is amazing!! Can't wait to launch the Club Epic tonight ... What a party!" Sheen tweeted on the afternoon before the event took place.

But just as things were kicking, Sheen appeared to get out of hand. During his introduction speech, Sheen said, "How we doing? ... Lying bunch of f****t a******s, how we doing?"

The actor was later accused of making "homophobic remarks."

Sheen however, has denied the accusations. He later explained to TMZ that it was his intention to say "maggot" but that his "lisp" had made the word sound like something else.

"I meant no ill will and intended to hurt no one and I apologize if I offended anyone," Sheen told the site after accusations of his slur had surfaced. "I meant to say maggot but I have a lisp."

The actor has come under scrutiny more frequently since losing his position on "Two and a Half Men." Sheen was fired after insulting the producer.

However, this time around some fans of the actor have suggested that critics are being too harsh.

"It sure didn't seem like he meant it as a homophobic slur - he was trying to be funny. It wasn't funny, but his offer to apologize is proof he meant no harm," one user wrote on the TMZ blog.

But another user called Sheen out as a liar.

"A lisp occurs with the letter "s" not "m" or "f". He's lying," the user prompted.
