Chelsea Transfer News 2015: John Stones Still on Radar for the Blues
The English Premier League champions Chelsea are still looking to pry John Stones off Everton's hands by sending over an improved bid for the defender.
Jose Mourinho's men have been eager to add depth to their back line and the Portuguese believes that Stones is that man despite only being 20 years old.
The Blues previously made a bid for Stones at a price ranging around £25 million. It was subsequently rejected and it is understood that the Merseyside club is only open to talks if the bid goes above £35 million.
However, that amount does not seem to faze the league champions as they recently touched on the possible move with a £30 million offer.
According the Daily Mail, Everton are prepared to reject the bid again and are hoping that it ends the saga of Chelsea's chase on the Englishman.
"Everton do not wish to sell Stones and are hopeful the 20-year-old won't push for a move either," Jones said.
They recognise bids over £35m would make economical sense but also believe Stones will continue to gain value and, should their stance change, could go for even more next summer after the European Championship."
Other Chelsea players have also suggested that Stones move to Stamford Bridge, with centre back Gary Cahill suggesting that football players have to make the most of the window they have as players.
"If you're a young player in the game, have played in the Premier League like he did a lot last year, and a big club come calling, it's very difficult to turn down because you want to achieve the most you can in the short period you have in your career as a professional footballer," Cahill told The Guardian.
"He will look at the club, look at the players, and look at being involved in a squad like ours. When Chelsea came calling for me, it was an opportunity, it was a chance and looking from the outset you may not be sure how it's going to go. But it's one you can't turn down; you have to grab it with both hands," he added.
