Cher Feels Ashamed After Ripping Miley Cyrus
Cher, the 67-year-old entertainer, is ashamed of herself for ripping young singer Miley Cyrus to shreds for a highly publicized MTV VMA performance that took place last month.
Cyrus, the 20-year-old daughter of country music singer Billy Ray Cyrus, may have rose to fame as a child star as the Disney Channel character Hannah Montana, but she has switched creative gears in music. During the performance for "We Can't Stop" Cyrus stripped down to a nude bikini while gyrating on married R&B singer Robin Thicke, 36.
Cher initially spoke out against Cyrus' performance.
"I'm not old fashioned. She could have come out naked, and if she'd just rocked the house, I would have said, 'You go, girl.' It just wasn't done well," the veteran performer said in a USA Today report. "She can't dance, her body looked like hell, the song wasn't great, one cheek was hanging out. And, chick, don't stick out your tongue if it's coated."
However, after her comments made headlines Cher decided to backtrack on Twitter.
"I'm a little ashamed. I didn't keep my big Opinionated mouth shut.... What I should have said (is) 'I didn't like (the performance) that much, but she's Pushing The Envelope, being an ARTIST, (SIC)" Cher tweeted. "She's talented,& DIDNT COMMIT A FELONY. But somehow my ego had 2 get ITS 2 CENTS IN (SIC)!"
Still the older singer insisted that she was not apologizing for her initial statements.
"Ps this is Not an apology 4 what I Thought, its a Reminder, that if I don't practice my principles,I loose Them," Cher tweeted.
Still performers like Britney Spears defended Cyrus' performance.
"I think anytime you do a performance that is that memorable, you're going to have criticism," Spears said of Cyrus on Good Morning America recently. "I think she's doing her thing. She's being herself, so I give props to her."
