Chicago Bear NFL Trade Rumors: Bears Want to Trade Jay Cutler

The Chicago Bears must be tired of missing the playoffs by now because they are reportedly planning to trade their longest-tenured player this offseason.

ESPN's Jeff Darlington said the Bears have begun shopping Jay Cutler around the league and they were reportedly looking for a trade partner who's willing to give them draft picks in exchange for the quarterback. Trading Cutler would not be easy, though. He does not have a no-trade clause, but Darlington pointed out that the quarterback and the team have to agree on the potential destination or he could simply walk away.

"Cutler, 33, has little incentive to play for a noncompetitive team given the lack of any guaranteed money in his current contract, sources with NFL teams privy to the details said. As a result, the Bears' decision to pursue a trade could leave them in a sticky situation with their quarterback: If they are unable to find a suitable partner willing to give up draft picks, it might lead them to simply release Cutler," Darlington said in his report.

Well, looks like Cutler's time in Chicago is finally done. If the Bears fail to trade him, they can just waive him since he has no guaranteed money left on the seven-year, $126-million contract he signed back in 2014.

But instead of packing his bags and moving to another city, Cutler may decide to call it a career. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said Cutler was mulling retirement and he has reportedly confided in others.

Meanwhile, the Cleveland Browns, the New York Jets and the San Francisco 49ers are looking for a quarterback right now. Will they give the Bears a call?

One thing is for sure, though. The Jay Cutler era in Chicago is coming to an end, and some fans will rejoice because he has become their favorite scapegoat in the past few seasons.
