Chicago Bears NFL Trade Rumors: Alshon Jeffery 'Open to a Reunion' with Bears
The Chicago Bears might not have placed the franchise tag on wide receiver Alshon Jeffery, but that doesn't necessarily mean he's leaving.
According to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport, Jeffery's agent and the Bears had a positive meeting on Saturday and both sides were reportedly "more than open to a reunion." Bears general manager Ryan Pace spoke to the media at the scouting combine last week and he also did not rule out the possibility of Jeffery re-signing with the team.
"I think sometimes when you can't come to a common ground with a player and an agent, sometimes it's necessary to kind of test the market to determine that player's value, and that's really where we're at. He's a good player, and we'll see how it plays out. But I think there are certain instances where testing the market is a necessary part of the process," Pace said, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Interestingly, Jeffery told ESPN's Josina Anderson that he wants to play for a contender next season and put himself "in the best situation to win a championship right now." Well, the Bears were one of the worst teams in the league last season and they are definitely not contenders this season. Will Jeffery re-sign with the Bears knowing that they are going to struggle to make the playoffs?
San Francisco 49ers, Tennessee Titans and Philadelphia Eagles were reportedly interested in signing him as well once he hits the free agency market. However, it should be noted that every single one of those teams also failed to make the playoffs last season. At least the Titans and Eagles should compete for a spot in the postseason. The 49ers aren't any better than the Bears.
Now that he's an unrestricted free agent, Jeffery can decide where he wants to go. Can the Bears convince him to stay or will someone else offer him a huge contract?
