'Chicago Fire' Season 5 Spoilers: Severide and Kidd's Ex Battle; Casey Trades Firefighting for a Desk Job?
Mouch and Brett write a firefighter romance novel together.
Fans of "Chicago Fire" will have to wait until next month before its fifth season premieres. They have to wait for that amount of time too to find out what's up with their favorite couples, Dawson and Casey, Kidd and Severide, as well as their other favorite characters.
The inevitable battle
Last season's finale of "Chicago Fire" proved to be ominous when Kidd's (Miranda Rae Mayo) mentally unstable ex-husband sat in the living room while she was in her bedroom with Severide (Taylor Kinney). Fans were left hanging with absolutely no clue as to how the inevitable confrontation will go down. But, according to Jesse Spencer, who plays Lt. Matthew Casey in the series, it will not be immediately resolved.
Executive Producer Matt Olmsted, on the other hand, revealed in an interview that "Chicago Fire" Season 5 will deal with the fallout of Kidd's disturbed ex-husband; Severide will battle him at the beginning of the season.
Meant for each other
What's going to happen also in the upcoming season is that Kidd and Severide will be keeping each other at arm's length for a little while. He will somehow blame her for what happened, while she will indeed feel responsible for bringing her ex to his life. However, just as Olmsted is convinced that the two are meant for each other, he also wants to convince the audience of that reality. Olmsted added that the two are very similar and there simply is a sense of greatness when they are together.
New parents
As for his own character's story with Dawson in Season 5 of "Chicago Fire", Spencer hinted that since the two have become parents, they are beginning to figure out how that would work with both of them being firefighters. The actor said it will either be Casey staying safe behind a desk job in an office, or it will be Dawson who will have to move to another safer job.
Spencer also nixed any further political career for Casey after being elected as an alderman of his ward. A rumored Senate run in "Chicago Fire" Season 5 will not be in anyone's best interest, he added.
Budding romance writers
Meanwhile, Firehouse 51 Chief Boden (Eamonn Walker) will still feel Jimmy Borelli's (Steven R. McQueen) animosity towards him. Borelli blames the chief for the death of his brother, whom he is still very much grieving over.
Two budding writers will be discovered among the firefighters in "Chicago Fire" Season 5, according to Olmsted. Mouch (Christian Stolte) and Brett (Kara Kilmer) will pen a romance lit featuring a firefighter that the others will not know about.
There are speculations that Mouch will put in the book some inspirations from his real life. It would be interesting to see how Platt (Amy Morton) and the others will react once this little secret is discovered.
Season 5 of "Chicago Fire" will premiere on October 11 on NBC.
