Chris Brown Hit and Run Charges Filed: 'This is Really Ridiculous,' Says Singer

Chris Brown has been charged with a hit-and-run Tuesday after a minor accident with a Mercedes-Benz May 21 in which the other driver, a woman, alleged he left without giving her the proper information. The Los Angeles City Attorney decided this week to file charges against Brown for the incident.

Chris Brown's hit-and-run charges involve two criminal counts: leaving the scene without exchanging the proper information with the other driver and driving without a valid license, attorney's office spokesman Frank Mateljan told The Los Angeles Times. Brown rear-ended the woman last month but claims that there was no damage to her vehicle- certainly not enough to warrant an exchange of insurance information, but he says he did anyway.

"It's not a hit and run if u get out the car, exchange information (who has NO DAMAGE to either cars). This is really ridiculous," he tweeted earlier this week. "I have a valid drivers license and I gave the woman the right info. She saw cameras and wanted to make a scene."

The 24-year-old R&B singer also said his name and fame is the reason he's being targeted by the unnamed woman.

"She contacted the cops thinking of a payday from Chris Brown when I followed the proper procedures," he tweeted.

Brown, who is still on probation stemming from his 2009 domestic abuse incident with singer and then-girlfriend Rihanna, could be facing serious jail time if he violated his probation. The "Fine China" singer could do up to six months in jail per charge.

Brown will be arraigned July 15.
