Chris Hemsworth News: Actor Paid Off Parents' Life Debts, Brother Liam Says
Someone give Chris Hemsworth a Son of the Year award!
The "Thor" actor isn't just a devoted husband, gushing about marriage and his wife Elsa Pataky at every chance, and a loving father. This week, fans learned that the 32-year-old Australian actor is also an exceptionally good son.
In an interview with the Independent, the actor's brother Liam revealed how the older Hemsworth gave their parents the gift of a lifetime by paying off their lifelong debts. This selfless deed would have remained a secret were it not for his younger brother, who is currently promoting the films "The Dressmaker," in which he co-stars with Kate Winslet, and "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2," the final instalment of the "Hunger Games" series.

Talking about the value of hard work and how stardom can transform lives, the younger Hemsworth recalled how, one day, Chris called their father and asked him to check his back account. Admitting that the story still brings him to tears, the actor said: "He [his father] called my brother Chris back and said: 'I don't know how to feel. Since I left home I have had debts and I thought I'd be paying them off until I died and have this weight hanging over me, and now to have them completely cleared.'"
He added, "They are so happy now and able to spend more time with us, I would love to be able to do something for my parents like that."
But the "Avengers" actor isn't the only Hemsworth son to have a heart of gold. Liam, along with Chris, is an ambassador for the Australian Childhood Foundation, an organization that their parents (a teacher and a social services counsellor) have long supported. "If you want to be a good person who adds to society, you have responsibility," the actor said. "That is something I take very seriously."
Chris Hemsworth's latest film "In the Heart of the Sea" hits the big screen on Dec. 11.
"The Dressmaker," which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on Sep.14, opened at #1 on the Australian box office. "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2," which hit theaters in the U.S. and Canada on Nov. 20, has kept its #1 spot at the box office since.
