Chrissy Teigen News: Model-Host Opens Up About Going Through Postpartum Depression
Model and host Chrissy Teigen recently shared the struggle of going through postpartum depression which she experienced after giving birth to her and John Legend's first baby.
When Legend wrote the song "All of Me," the world did not miss the part where he described Teigen as having a "smart mouth." The model's Twitter page can surely attest to that, as she has the reputation of sharing most things on social media – from her political views to her fun dip-stained finger.
However, knowing Teigen's reputation of being an "open book" to both her fans and haters, she surprised everyone after writing an article for Glamour magazine where she shared a major event in her life that the model-host had managed to hide from fans for several months.
Teigen's essay for Glamour, published with her gorgeous photos in pajamas and comfy clothes, started by talking about the love of her life and the family they started once Luna was born in April 2016.
She shared: "I had everything I needed to be happy. And yet, for much of the last year, I felt unhappy. What basically everyone around me—but me—knew up until December was this: I have postpartum depression."
From the official website of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, postpartum depression was described as something a woman might experience after having a baby.
A CDC research shared that at least one of nine women goes through this condition which should be understood as something that is more intense than "baby blues." CDC maintains, "'Baby blues' symptoms typically resolve on their own within a few days."
In Teigen's Glamour article, she narrated how the condition drastically affected her in and out of their home. She shared she would constantly cry out of nowhere in her dressing room at "Lip Sync Battle" or even at their house.
At home, she said there was even a time when her husband needed to sleep on the couch with her for four straight days because she felt too exhausted to go up to their bedroom. She admitted that she went through postpartum depression the same time she had to start working on her second cookbook. And since the condition caused her to lose her appetite and basically go on not eating for a couple of days, it was a major roadblock for her to work on new recipes.
However, on a positive note, Teigen added that battling postpartum depression did not change her desire to have more babies.
In the end, Teigen wrote, "More than anything, I always want to have enough energy for Luna—to run up the stairs with her, to have tea parties with her. As she gets older, she's becoming more and more fun. Her eyes are getting so wide, and I want to be there for those wide eyes. And I will be."
