Christian Bale Offered $50 Million for 'Man of Steel 2'?

Christian Bale was reportedly offered $50 million to put on the Batman suit and appear in "Man of Steel 2." Bale has not confirmed or denied whether he will star in the film, but considering the success of "Man of Steel," he may opt in.

"Why would Christian Bale walk away form what is certainly going to be either the first or second highest grossing movie in the history of cinema? He could probably make 50 million dollars for being in the movie 20 minutes, and it would be worth every penny to the studio," Vincent Russel, author of the ebook "Beyond Batman: The Unauthorized True Story of Christian Bale and His Dark Knight Dilemma," wrote.

"Sources close to Christian Bale have reportedly begun expressing their views that Bale now views the Batman films in the same light that Robert Downey Jr. views the Iron Man films," Russel quoted an insider as saying.

Downey, Jr. made $50 million for appearing in "The Avengers," and after making "Iron Man 3," he is ready to let the character of Tony Stark go for good.

"There's a little bit of soul reclamation going on. I feel that the first time I played Tony, I did it best. Sorry! The affinity with Tony now is: how do you sustain something? I'm not stupid; I like to play ball; I love the company; I love the character and the business side of things," Downey, Jr. told IGN.com.

"It would probably be the best thing in the world for me. I take the audience very seriously – I feel bad when I see folks doing movies and the audience is like, 'Don't do that anymore.' I don't have to overstay my welcome," the actor added.

Bale sounded just a bit like Downey, Jr. when he spoke with Entertainment Weekly last month.

"We were incredibly fortunate to get to make three [Batman films]. That's enough. Let's not get greedy. It's a torch that should be handed from one actor to another. So I enjoy looking forward to what somebody else will come up with," Bale said.
