Chuck Grassley and Obama 'Stupid' Raises Questions of President's Rights

Sen. Chuck Grassley ridiculed President Obama for recent comments he made, concerning the senate's stance on the healthcare law.

The Affordable Healthcare Act currently up for review in the Senate has stirred severe controversy that was fueled last week when President Obama commented on the court's position.

"Ultimately I am confident that the Supreme Court will not take what would be an unprecedented extraordinary step of overturning a law that was passed by a strong majority of a democratically elected Congress," Obama said.

The president also suggested that overturning the bill would exemplify "judicial activism."

Critics found the comments startling, accusing the president of bullying and treating the American people as though they were stupid. In response, Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley has suggested that Obama is the "stupid" one.

"Constituents askd why i am not outraged at PresO attack on supreme court independence. Bcause Am ppl r not stupid as this x prof of con law," he tweeted Saturday, addressing the fact that the President is a former professor of Constitutional law.

Republican senator Jim DeMint also suggested over the weekend that the president and his administration were "bullies" who "believe Americans are stupid."

The Obama administration later came forward to clarify the President's comments, insisting that the courts had the right to assess the constitutionality of a law, but stating that it was an unprecedented move to overturn such a law.

"Attorney General Eric Holder told the appeals court in a three-page letter that the power of courts to review the laws 'is beyond dispute' and that the administration has not sought to limit or reconsider that principle," Reuters reported. "He argued that when courts do consider such challenges, precedent dictates that 'Acts of Congress are 'presumptively constitutional'' and that the executive branch often urges courts to respect such laws passed by Congress."
