Cisco Spark Board Specs, Price, Update: Specs Similar to iPhone with Home Button, 4K Support and More
The all-new Cisco Spark Board is created to define how companies conduct their conference meetings. The board has just been announced by the company on Tuesday and it is believed to bring a tight competition with the Microsoft Surface Hub and Google Jamboard.
Cisco Spark Board may become the benchmark of how conference meetings should be conducted. The device is compared to function like a tablet, though it has a gigantic screen fit for a video conference. There is also a home button to allow the user to access the main menu easier than before.
"For this product, we needed something that was familiar. We needed an experience that was obvious," said senior vice president and general manager of IoT and applications, Rowan Trollope.
Trollope's statement pertains to the partnership of Cisco and Apple so that Spark Board can work compatibly with iPhone, though it can also run smoothly with other devices. And since the board is made to be convenient, the home button feature is a perfect fit.
Cisco is reportedly focusing on the ease of use and simplicity, which is different from what Cisco has been developing for their other products. The Spark Board can run Spark — a cloud-based service made for collaboration activities.
Users can draw images with their fingers, or use an aluminum pen that can also serve as an eraser — just like what a whiteboard eraser does. The screen can also be zoomed in our out by just pinching the screen, similar to what it being done to handsets and tablets.
Cisco Spark Board has two variants available: 55-inch and 7-inch sizes. Both variants are capable of supporting 4K display. It also has its own camera, speakers and microphone. The price is set at $4,999 for the smaller version and the $9,990 for the larger one. A $199 monthly fee is required for software update.
