'Civilization 6' News and Updates: Russian Civ and Peter the Great Revealed by Game Developers
The much-anticipated 4X video game "Civilization 6" will be officially launched in just a few weeks. The publisher and developer of the game have been teasing the fans of its new features by revealing the civs and leaders including the game; with the latest being Russia, led by Peter the Great.
Russia and Peter the Great
For the past few weeks, the buzz generated by "Civilization 6" has been coming from the teasers. Game developer and publisher Firaxis and 2K Games, respectively, have been revealing the different civs and leaders to be featured in the game. With the official game release getting closer, the newest ones have just been revealed—The Russia civ and Peter the Great.
The Russian civ has been featured in almost all iterations of "Civilization". Strategically, the main focus of this civ has been the rapid expansion of their territory, which aligns historically. This gives a huge advantage to "Civilization 6" players, especially when considering its unique abilities.
Peter the Great would be leading this civ. Historically, he is also known as Peter I or Peter Alexeyevich. He was the Tsar of the Russian Empire from 1682, and his term ended only upon his demise. In his rule, the Russian Empire's territory has vastly expanded and was regarded as a major European power. This also led to a cultural revolution.
Expanding Territories, The Cossacks, The Lavra, and Great Embassy
As per every "Civilization 6" civ and leader, both the Russian civ and Peter the Great will gain unique abilities. Russia's unique ability, though still unnamed, is focused on expanding their land. This will allow the civ to gain extra territories when founding their cities. They also gain extra faith and production when they are built on Tundra tiles.
Russia has also been historically known for their solid military unit. This is reflected in "Civilization 6" through the Cossacks. They are significantly better than the default Cavalry unit they will be replacing. They also have the ability to move after attacking.
The unique district of Russia in "Civilization 6" is the Lavra. This is a Russian monastery built upon Russian Orthodox Church. The district allows players who use a Great Person in the Lavra to add a tile to the city's cultural border.
As for Peter the Great, he will be receiving the Great Embassy ability in "Civilization 6". This allows the Russian civ to receive either science or culture from trade routes to more advanced civs. This enables the player to compensate for the shortcomings in the Russian civ through the trade route.
Release
"Civilization 6" will be officially released on October 21. It will be available on the PC with Windows, OS X, or Linux.
