Cleveland Cavaliers Roster News 2015: Team to Use Trade Exception
Still looking to improve on their roster, the Cleveland Cavaliers are now looking at the trade market to bring in more role players.
Their stars are already in line, with LeBron James, Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving all set to return to the fold, the Cavs are now concentrating on building their custom role players fit according to what the stars need.
And with no money left to spend, they can use the trade exceptions they got from sending Brendan Haywood and Mike Miller to the Portland Trail Blazers.
Getting second-round draft picks, they can now use it as a way to trade for players making sure that the player/s they get do not exceed the valuation of Haywood ($10.5 million) and Miller ($2.85 million).
Now it seems that the Cavaliers are looking for either a forward or a guard – either way they are surely looking at someone who can spread the floor and shoot from beyond the arc.
However, with the lack of big names left available for the taking, there are still a few that could work out for the Cavaliers if all else fail.
One name on the cards may be Danny Granger of the Detroit Pistons. He has fallen from the highs he had since 2009 and has succumbed to multiple injuries in his career, but Granger can still shoot from beyond the arc.
Quite frankly, it may be the only thing he does at the moment. Priced at $2.1 million, the 32-year-old can give James some added minutes to rest and play some quality minutes on a smaller line-up.
Kevin Martin of the Minnesota Timberwolves can also be a player that the Cavaliers can pick-up, and is valued at $7 million – using Haywood's price. He is a shooter who is not afraid to take big shots from beyond the arc.
At one time considered a star when he played for the Houston Rockets, Martin can still put up points in a hurry and despite a diminished role, he can still be a spark off the bench.
Finally, there is Nick Young of the Los Angeles Lakers. With the return of Kobe Bryant, the emergence of Jordan Clarkson and the arrival of D'Angelo Russell and Lou Williams, Swaggy P's minutes with the Lakers are likely to diminish greatly.
He plays very loose, similar to J.R. Smith and can rack-up points in a hurry. Inefficiency may hurt the team, but he can play a great part in a full bench for the Cavaliers if they retain Smith and acquire Young's services.
