Cleveland Cavaliers Rookie Wing Cedi Osman Drawing Trade Interest
Nobody was really caught off guard by Dwyane Wade's decision to join the Cleveland Cavaliers. After all, everyone already knew that they were the clear favorites for his signature after he secured a buyout with the Chicago Bulls.
By joining the Cavaliers, Wade will play for a perennial title contender and he will also get to team up with LeBron James once again. Cleveland is also getting a 12-time All-Star who has already won three National Basketball Association (NBA) titles during his 15-year career in the league. His production has steadily declined in the past few years, but he's still a proven veteran who knows how to win and the team needs someone like him on the roster.
It's a win-win move for both sides. However, the Cavaliers already had 15 players under guaranteed contracts before they signed Wade and now they will have to trade or release one of them to make room for the veteran guard.
Before they waive anyone, AmicoHoops' Sam Amico said the Cavaliers will attempt to pull off a trade to create an open roster spot.
The most likely trade candidate is Iman Shumpert since they have been trying to move him since the start of the free agency period, but it seems another opportunity has presented itself.
According to Amico, a handful of teams have reportedly reached out to the Cavaliers to see if Cedi Osman is available after they signed Wade.
Well, it appears that the rookie may not even get the chance to play a single regular season game for the Cavaliers. The Turkish wing already lost his jersey number to Wade, but now there's a chance he may also have to give up his roster spot to the 12-time All-Star by the end of training camp.
Of course, it's possible the Cavaliers may unload someone else instead with ESPN Cleveland suggesting that either Richard Jefferson or Jose Calderon will have to go to make room for Wade.
