Cleveland Cavaliers Roster, Injury News 2017: Guard Derrick Rose Avoids Serious Injury to Ankle
Cleveland Cavaliers fans probably held their collective breath on Friday when Derrick Rose landed awkwardly after he was fouled by Milwaukee Bucks center Greg Monroe. People tend to act this way every time Rose falls to the floor, but the three-time All-Star managed to avoid serious injury this time.
Rose has been diagnosed with a sprained left ankle and he will have to sit out a few games while he recovers. The good news is that ankle isn't seriously injured.
"It's a mild sprain, nothing too serious," Rose said, via cleveland.com. "Been getting lot of treatment since this morning, actually (Friday) night. They're staying on top of it. Like I said, I just don't want to lose my conditioning because I feel like I'm in great shape right now," he continued.
Rose did not suit up for the Cavaliers when they took on the Orlando Magic on Saturday and he might have to sit out the game against the Chicago Bulls as well this Tuesday. The 2011 National Basketball Association (NBA) most valuable player (MVP) would have loved to play against his old team, but Rose has insisted that they were going to take the smart approach by being patient.
Jose Calderon should continue to get the start at point guard while Rose is out.
Meanwhile, Monroe's foul on Rose has been upgraded to a flagrant foul 1 after the league office reviewed it.
"Always good to hear that. Just shows that they're paying attention to what's going on. Even though I would've wanted it in the game yesterday and for the team, it totally feels justified," Rose said, according to cleveland.com.
Monroe actually caught Rose around the neck and head area when he tried to stop the former MVP from finishing a layup and it should have been called a flagrant foul during the game. However, the officiating crew didn't think it was a flagrant foul at the time because they say Monroe didn't do it intentionally.
