'Coco' Release Date, News: Film's Teaser Follows 'The Book of Life' Concept Minus Romance

The use of song and music is always an effective way to tap into the hearts of audiences anywhere. When it is combined with animation, it crosses the boundaries of age and unites everyone. Disney Pixar's "Coco," however, has everyone scratching their heads as its concept is too familiar.

In the film's official trailer, Miguel, voiced by newcomer Anthony Gonzalez, is the definition of a true fanboy as he has a collection of items dedicated to his musical idol, Ernesto de la Cruz (Benjamin Bratt). He adores him so much that he has a VHS tape containing a collection of his best work while he imitates the way he plays with his guitar.

Wanting to pay his respects, Miguel visits de la Cruz' mausoleum and sees the musician's iconic guitar hoisted on the wall. Upon strumming the strings, he emanates a strange aura and is unseen by other people, only to find out that he has been whisked away to the Land of the Dead.

For those who feel like it had an uncanny resemblance to another Day of the Dead film, apparently there are a lot of people who think so too. The other movie that it got compared to is 20th Century Fox's "The Book of Life," where both share similarities in setting, music and culture, which is why it is too glaring not to notice. Perhaps the only difference is the fact the latter has a romantic side, but still, they are too comparable.

Netizens were quick to realize this and took to social media to air their befuddlement and concern. While some are expressing rage and disappointment, some decide to create memes to make fun out of the situation.

It's too early, however, to say that the plot is very much the same as perhaps only the setting is shared. That's something that moviegoers will have to see when "Coco" arrives in theaters on Nov. 22, 2017.
