Connecticut Huskies Women's Basketball Team Get Home Edge And Top Overall Seed at Women's NCAA Tournament
The women's basketball team of the University of Connecticut (UConn) acquired home court advantage and the top seed at the Women's National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) tournament.
In a report by the Associated Press (via the New York Times), the female Huskies may opt not to leave their home state of Indianapolis until the Final Four games, which will take place in early April.
Along with the UConn, three other teams are also ranked as the number one seed: the South Carolina Gamecocks, the Baylor Bears, and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The report adds that having played and prevailed over South Carolina and Notre Dame already, the Huskies would then be facing Baylor in the semifinals on April 3rd, assuming that both teams would be able to move forward in the tournament.

Throughout the history of the NCAA, no women's basketball team has won four consecutive titles. To their credit, UConn already managed to win three straight women's titles, along with the Tennessee Volunteers, who also won three championships.
The main benchmark for accomplishments, however, is the UCLA Bruins men's basketball team, who already won seven consecutive titles. But for UConn women's basketball team head coach Geno Auriemma, bagging a title in 2016 would be more than enough, as it would give him his 12th championship of his career, breaking the tie with UCLA men's basketball head coach John Wooden.
For Auriemma, getting the crown would be a win-win situation for both him and his team.
"They've known it since the first time we met at halfcourt there for the first day of practice. The only other time it has been mentioned is in passing, when they do something stupid and I say, 'Teams that are trying to do something great, they don't do that stuff, not in March,'" Auriemma said.
The female Huskies' first assignment will be against the 16th-seeded Robert Morris Cardinals in the tournament opener on Saturday, March 19th.
