Conor McGregor Fights News: Boxing Champ Andre Berto Offers Some Advice To McGregor About Nate Diaz Rematch

Two-time welterweight boxing champion Andre Berto has been a long-time mixed martial arts fan.

With his brother Edson being a professional MMA fighter who recently competed under the UFC's rival promotion Bellator FC, "The Beast" was even rumored to have had the thoughts of transitioning into cage fighting as well.

The recently concluded UFC 196 pay-per-view event drew a huge buzz, given that one of the headliners was featherweight champion Conor McGregor. "The Notorious'" penchant for animated trash talk has earned him both fans and haters. But ultimately, many are giving props to him for "bringing eyes to the sport" of mixed martial arts.

McGregor has been successful with his short but blitzing UFC career, going on an almost three-year undefeated streak, defeating the opponents that were put in front of him, one by one. It all came to an end, however, last March 5th, when he faced Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and former lightweight title contender Nate Diaz.

Despite coming into the contest as the underdog, having no training camp and agreeing to fight with only 10 days' notice, it was Diaz who was able to score the upset by sinking in a second round rear-naked choke submission.

The Irishman was dealt with his first UFC loss, and his first defeat since 2010. And as early as now, the UFC is reportedly planning to hold a rematch between McGregor and Diaz, which is being targeted to headline UFC 200 on July 9th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Many believe that Diaz would once again emerge as the victor in the second fight, given his size advantage and grappling prowess.

Apparently, Berto agrees, and even advised against McGregor taking the immediate rematch.

"I think he should probably take another fight or two first," Berto told TMZ Sports. "I think he should go back down (in weight)."

After UFC 196, McGregor himself declared his intent to move back down to 145 pounds and defend his belt.
