Alsobrooks has said that Phillips committed these atrocities simle because he did not want to pay child support.

Phillips is currently being tried on two counts of first-degree murder, as well as on charges of child abuse and firearms violations.

The accused was arrested following the incident in June 2011. Authorities had found the body of 20 year old Wynetta Wright in a nearby park.

Their daughter, Jaylin, was about to turn one soon after, was also found dead in her car seat in a baking hot car with the windows closed and the doors locked.

However, Phillips has argued that he is innocent of all accusations and that all the evidence against him is circumstantial, according to The Associated Press.

The trial continues.
