Cops Kill Teen Gunman: Reports Vary on Shooting

Cops in Brooklyn killed a teen gunman, reports state, after undercover cops approached a group of teens acting suspiciously. The 16-year-old allegedly pulled out a gun and was shot by police after brandishing the weapon and pointing it at one of the officers.

Kimani Gray, 16, was rushed to the hospital after being shot in the leg and stomach but was later pronounced dead. Witnesses have said that police preemptively opened fire on the teen.

"He was screaming, 'Stop! I'm not running!'" Devonte Brown, 16, told the New York Post. Yet another account contradicts Brown's version of the events from Sunday night.

"He was running for his life, telling the cops, 'Stop,' witness Camille Johnson told PIX11 News. "They are seriously walking around, shooting little kids," she added.

"I heard a lot of shots, rapid fire, about eight shots. I heard the gun shots from my living room," unnamed neighbors told the Post.

"After the anti-crime sergeant and police officer told the suspect to show his hands, which was heard by witnesses, Gray produced a revolver and pointed it at the officers, who fired a total of 11 rounds, striking Gray several times," Paul J. Browne, chief spokesman for the Police Department told the New York Times.

After the shots stopped, one witness says, the police stood over Gray and threatened him.

"He said, 'Please don't let me die.' One of the officers replied, 'Stay down or we'll shoot you again,'" the witness, known only as Vanessa, told the Times.

The two officers involved in the shooting were also taken to the hospital to be treated for trauma. They will most likely be put on administrative leave as an investigation into the shooting continues.

Gray had a rap sheet that included grand larceny charges and one charge of inciting a riot, police told the Post. His family has been shocked by his death and is in disbelief. According to the Times, Gray's mother fainted at the hospital and "was having heart problems."
