Could 'Terminator Genisys' Be the Last of the Franchise?
The "Terminator" is back but rumors are spreading that this could be the last comeback that Arnold Schwarzenegger can make for the franchise.
The upcoming film has hardcore fans questioning whether the movie would be a sequel or a reboot of the franchise. Jai Courtney, who takes on the role of Kyle Reese, claimed that the film is neither a sequel nor a reboot, which further strengthens the speculations that the movie could be something that would reset the whole franchise. Mark Reilly revealed during their Meet the Movie Press podcast that the movie's plot twist "could be the last nail in the coffin." Reilly also claims to know the movie's plot line and it is something that fans will not be too happy about.
"Again, it is Arnold coming back as old Terminator. And time traveling. The time traveling elements are going to confuse the hell out of everyone. That is what I'm hearing. The Terminator and new Terminator … Now we have a different form of a Terminator … which I will not get into because that is big spoiler," Reilly claimed.
There could be some truth to these rumors if fans would base the speculations about how J.K. Simmons previously said that the film would be a smart re-imagining.
"This, I think, is a re-imagining. They don't want to call it a sequel or a reboot. It's the world that James Cameron created with Arnold [Schwarzenegger]. All the leading characters are characters who have existed in that world – the character I play is new to it," he told Empire.
IMDb synopsis of the upcoming film reads:
"After finding himself in a new timeline, Kyle Reese teams up with John Connor's mother Sarah and an aging terminator to try and stop the one thing that the future fears, 'Judgement Day.'"
Schwarzenegger reprises his role as an aging T-800 who could be secretly involved in the story from the beginning.
The cast includes Arnold Schwarzenegger (Terminator), Emilia Clarke (Sarah Connor), Jai Courtney (Kyle Ross), and Jason Clarke (John Connor).
Directed by Alan Taylor, "Terminator Genisys" will open in theatres on July 1, 2015.
