'Crazy Ex-Girlfriend' Season 3 Air Date, News: Rebecca Takes on the Scorned Woman Persona

When one thinks about musicals, usually people think about the classics and old-school renditions which may not necessarily be applicable in current times. This is definitely not the case for The CW's romantic musical comedy/drama series "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend," which has been confirmed to have a third season.

What happens when the show finally returns? In order to get some clues, one must go back to where things ended in season 2, in which Rebecca (Rachel Bloom) was left all alone by the altar by Josh (Vincent Rodriguez III). The last line said, "Josh Chan must be destroyed," signaling that things are about to turn from puppy eyes to beastly snarls.

As far as her obsession with Josh, that's not going to go away anytime soon, but rather it may only be changing form. If previously it was an obsession to be with him and be in love together, this time it's the compelling obsession to even the odds by seeking revenge that's driving her.

This is something that showrunner Aline Brosh McKenna confirmed with TVLine. "In a time of crisis here, a new persona leaps into her mind, and it's the scorned woman," McKenna points out. "We'll see how consistently she follows through on that, and how her feelings evolve as she recovers from this big rupture," she adds.

With that in mind, will she become a villain in her own series? Is that even possible? Perhaps that could be, but ultimately it's more of a question of how the audiences understand what the character is going through and how she's coping with it.

Bloom agrees that she's not necessarily the hero, and that sometimes she becomes difficult to like, and for good reason. In an interview with E! News, she says, "I have never given a s—t about people liking her because she's meant to be somewhat, at times, a bubbly antihero ... I don't really care about likability, but I want people to understand why she's doing what she's doing."

This being said, anything is possible for season 3 of "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend," which doesn't have a confirmed air date as of the moment.
