'Crazy Ex-Girlfriend' Season 3 News, Spoilers: Rebecca's Past To Be Explored in Upcoming Season
Against all odds, The CW gave "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" an early order for season 3, even though ratings have not been stellar. And with the network's thumbs-up, the show is now focusing on what the new season will be like.
While speaking to TVLine, showrunner Aline Brosh McKenna talked about the recently concluded season of "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" as well as the season to come. McKenna revealed that season 3 will shed some light on Rebecca's past, including her mental health issues.
"One thing I know we are going to explore next year is: What has her past mental-health history been?... I think she's had bad experiences with being diagnosed and given medication that makes her feel bad," McKenna said. "So we're going to learn a lot more about her past struggles with her mental health, and to rein in these issues that she has."
Secrets will also be unveiled in the new season. It can be recalled that Rebecca and Nathaniel (Scott Michael Foster) kissed, and Paula (Donna Lynne Champlin) still has no idea that happened. And, as McKenna pointed out, Paula does not like being lied to, so it will definitely affect their friendship when she inevitably finds out.
With Rebecca having been left at the altar by Josh (Vincent Rodriguez III), she will have to navigate through and cope with the monumental change in her life. The season 2 finale saw the two almost tying the knot, but Josh bailed on her in the end to take up priesthood - a decision that McKenna says was thought of midway through the season.
Many were surprised that The CW gave "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" another season, especially with its dwindling ratings. However, the series has been critically acclaimed, which is perhaps a contributing reason as to why the network opted to give it one more shot.
"Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" season 3 does not have a premiere date yet, but co-creator and star Rachel Bloom has shared the first six episode titles on her Instagram account.
