'Criminal Minds' Season 13 Spoilers: Reid on Probation With BAU

Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) will be back with the Behavioral Analysis Unit but under certain conditions in the upcoming season of "Criminal Minds."

According to TV Guide, the lanky FBI agent will return as a full-pledged agent in the unit, but he will be under a probation of sorts. Since he failed to report his secret trip to Mexico, BAU higher-ups will have to put him in detention. Showrunner Erica Messer has revealed that Reid will be asked to do "some other work" as a consequence of his actions. Still, Prentiss (Paget Brewster) and the others will definitely be happy that their friend is back in the fold after quite a long hiatus.

When Reid made that unannounced trip to Mexico, it became his worst nightmare. He was framed for the murder of a nurse and was sent to prison. There, he experienced all kinds of torture - physical and emotional. Reid fought hard because he knew he must save his mother, Diana (Jane Lynch), who is suffering from Alzheimer's disease. Her condition is expected to become worse as time goes by.

At the moment, it is not confirmed if Lynch will reprise her role in the CBS series, but she did say in a recent interview that she was willing to return if asked.

Meanwhile, the promo released for season 13 provides a glimpse of the turmoil that the BAU will be facing. In last season's finale, the car containing several of the unit's members was involved in a vehicular accident. A huge truck was seen barreling into their vehicle. In the clip, the sound of the siren was loud and terrifying. Prentiss was shown lying on her hospital bed, seemingly in a catatonic state. It has been teased that Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness) will ask for the help of Agent Matt Simmons (Daniel Henney) from the "Beyond Borders" team to investigate the situation.

"Criminal Minds" season 13 will premiere on Sept. 27 at 10 p.m. EDT on CBS.
