'Criminal Minds' Season 9 Spoilers: As Season Finale Nears, Lives Are Put in Danger (TRAILER VIDEO)

"Criminal Minds" returns Wednesday night with an all-new episode entitled "Fatal." The team has a new mystery on its hands, and plenty of lives are in danger thanks to a serial killer in Long Beach, California.

According to the official press release, victims are found dead of arsenic poisoning and have hand-written notes near their bodies. Of course, there is more than meets the eye for members of the Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU). Apparently, Greek mythology plays a role in the rationale or staging of the deaths.

Continuing on in the new "Criminal Minds" direction of looking at BAU members' individual lives, tonight's episode will focus on Agent Hotchner's apprehension surrounding his son's career day at school. After all, how does one go about explaining that he tracks down the worst of the worst and often puts his life in danger to bring a bit of justice into an unjust world?

Last week saw the ending of Agent Morgan's relationship, and there are bound to be some repercussions from that. It's likely he will throw himself into work and perhaps his friendship with Garcia, who has always been one of his closest confidantes.

As the show begins to draw to a close, there are bound to be changes in store for the cast. CBS announced that the two-part season finale will feature a cliff-hanger, with one BAU member's life hanging in the balance … and it could be that of the beloved Garcia whose heart sometimes gets her into a situation, as it does in this particular case.

"As one team member's life hangs in the balance, another concerned BAU member must face a sad secret from the past, and Garcia is thrust into action to save a colleague, on the conclusion of the two-part ninth season finale of 'Criminal Minds,'" the official statement said.

With the two-part finale entitled "Angels" and "Demons," it could be a huge clue as to a possible huge change for the BAU.

"Criminal Minds" airs Wednesday nights on CBS.
