'Cruel Intentions' TV Series Spoiler: Sarah Michelle Gellar Returns to Small Screen, San Francisco Filming Wrapped Up
Fifteen years after it came out in the big screen, a television reboot of "Cruel Intentions" is expected to come soon. And for the fans of the original film, this may be just the walk down memory lane especially as Sarah Michelle Gellar confirmed way back that she will be joining the upcoming series to reprise her role as the power-hungry Kathryn Merteuil. It becomes even more exciting to find out that filming has concluded in San Francisco, implying that the release date is not far behind.
Another actor who joined the cast of the new series is Taylor John Smith, who plays the part of the "son of Ryan Philippe's ladykiller." Smith shared with Variety that he was grateful to have been included in the show and to be able to work with Roger Kumble, the show's original writer as well as director.
The series will take up the story with Merteuil's quest to have control over Valmont International, a company now owned by Bash Casey, who is the son of her stepbrother Sebastian Valmont (Phillippe) and Annette Hargrove, which will be played by Kate Levering. Hargrove's role was played by Reese Witherspoon in the original movie of the same title.
As the story goes, Bash will leave his small-town roots in Kansas so he could better prepare to take on his family's fortune by going to Brighton Preparatory Academy.
Smith said of the show, "The story is connected to the original. It's a true sequel."
And Merteuil will be "very much the same Kathryn Merteuil, except she's even more stunning, more edgy, more power hungry, and more ruthless."
Smith also shared that the show went beyond the original in that it pushed the limits and hoped NBC would be willing to go the same way.
"It's edgy and over-the-top type stuff. It's a roller coaster."
Samantha Logan also takes a role in the show as Merteuil's husband's spoiled daughter.
