Cruz Wants Big Raise: New York Giants Receiver Says He's 'Not Asking for Much' (VIDEO)

Victor Cruz wants a big raise from the New York Giants, according to new reports, after offering two fantastic season, making him one of the top receivers in the NFL.

In 2011 he posted a single season record for the Giants with 1,536 yards in total as the Giants went on to claim the Super Bowl. He followed that up with 86 catches for 1,092 yards and 10 touchdowns this season, and it appears he believes he has shown form deserving of a pay rise.

Cruz has said, "I think I have definitely proven myself to be one of the highest compensated receivers in the league. That's kind of the way that I feel and my team feels, not only on the field, but as well as what I bring to the Giants as a brand and as an activist and person in the community. I think all of that taken into account; I'm definitely not asking for much as far as what's on the table."

However, the Giants will likely have to make adjustments if they are to concede to Cruz's demands. it has been reported that the team is already more than $4 million over the salary cap going into this off season, and 22 of the team's players are about to hit free agency.

Team owner John Mara has responded, "We certainly want him back, but like with any player, there's a limit to where we're going to go."

He added, "He's been a terrific player for us, he's a fan favorite, he does a lot for our franchise, but there is a limit."

Mara was obviously speaking about the salary cap and also negotiations that will have to take with various players across the board that would limit the amount any single player on the roster could demand.

Mara seemed also to suggest that the Giants are willing to try and reach a compromise and did not seem put off by the high demands, saying that it was the agent's job to negotiate tough. However, he seemed confident that there was plenty of time for the two sides to come to an amicable agreement: "Well, right now, but that's his agent. But that's what agents do, and we've got a lot of time to work something out, and hopefully we'll be able to come together."
