Dallas Cowboys Roster News August 2015: Dez Bryant Injury Puts Damper on Season Preparations
The Dallas Cowboys recently took a big hit as it was revealed that one of their stars is sidelined with an injury.
Dez Bryant is undoubtedly one of the Cowboys' most popular figures. He recently signed a new deal worth a reported $70 million deal for five years that should keep him with the team for the foreseeable future.
A polarizing figure, Bryant sees himself constantly under the spotlight. Only a week ago, Bryant was involved in a training camp altercation with Tyler Patmon. The incident was witnessed by many and even caught on film despite the Cowboys organization downplaying what happened.
He is making headlines again. Bryant picked up a hamstring strain and will be out of action indefinitely. As a result, the wide receiver will miss the team's preseason opener against the San Diego Chargers on Aug. 13.
Executive vice president Stephen Jones released a statement confirming the injury.
"He missed such a significant part of the off-season. It was obviously a concern whether it was verbalized by the organization that we were going to have to manage that situation," Jones said.
"This will let [athletic trainer Britt Brown] and our strength and conditioning staff work with him and get him into an even better place. Dez is never going to be out of shape. But there is a difference between being in great shape and ready to play games," he continued.
Bryant is entering his sixth season in the NFL and is regarded as one of the best wide receivers in the game. He is quick off his feet and has very nimble hands.
Last year, he topped the ranks with 16 receiving touchdowns.
While Bryant is sidelined, the Cowboys will rely on Terrance Williams and Cole Beasley.
