Dallas Stars, Pittsburgh Penguins NHL Trade Rumors: Stars Reportedly Interested in Acquiring Marc-André Fleury

Marc-André Fleury may have spent his entire National Hockey League (NHL) career with the Pittsburgh Penguins, but a lot of hockey fans believe that his days in Pittsburgh may be numbered after Matt Murray displaced him in the starting lineup. Last week, Penguins general manager Jim Rutherford even admitted that he would let Fleury go if the goalie asks for a trade. Well, a suitor has shown up.

NHL insider Pierre LeBrun has reported that the Penguins and the Dallas Stars have talked about a possible Fleury deal. However, he also stressed that the two teams only had a "very preliminary discussion."

"I'm told that there at least been a very preliminary discussion between Pittsburgh and Dallas regarding Marc-Andre Fleury, but I stress preliminary because I don't think there's anything there at this point. But certainly there's been contact and sometimes you just do that so that if you have to circle back at the last moment, you know that you've at least established contact. We'll see," LeBrun said, according to FanRag Sports.

"Certainly Fleury with two more years on his deal and a championship resume, I think we all agree would be an upgrade," he added.

Fleury is definitely an upgrade over Kari Lehtonen and Antti Niemi. No doubt about that. The Stars goalies have been inconsistent and they have subpar numbers this season.

The question is, what does Fleury want? If he is okay with the idea of backing up Murray, then there shouldn't be a problem. Rutherford already said that he wants to keep both goalies if it is possible. So, all deals are off if Fleury chooses to stay.

However, if he feels that he should be starting somewhere else, several pundits believe that Dallas is the perfect place to ship him since they play in the Western Conference. That's way better than trading him to a division or conference rival.

Will Fleury leave the only franchise he has ever played for in the NHL?
