Dallas Wiens Married: Face Transplant Patient Weds Burn Victim (PHOTO)
Dallas Wiens married a fellow burn victim Saturday in his hometown of Fort Worth, Texas. Wiens made international headlines nearly two years ago in 2011 when he received the first ever face transplant after accidentally touching a power line.
Dallas Wiens was married to Jamie Nash, a burn victim from Garland, Texas, according to reports. The 29-year-old had been in a car accident in June 2010, burning 70 percent of her body in the wreckage. However, she looked happy on her wedding day with Wiens, 27, as the pair came together at Ridglea Baptist Church, according to The Dallas Morning News.
Coincidentally, Wiens tragic accident happened at the same church, and it led him to meeting his second wife. He was painting the church in 2008 when his face touched a power line, instantly burning the side of his head severely. After the accident he was left blind and with extensive facial injuries.
After undergoing 20 major surgeries at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, Wiens became the first recipient of a full facial transplant. He then began attending a support group for burn victims at Dallas' Parkland Memorial Hopsital, which is where he met his future wife, Jamie.
"I am blessed beyond measure that you have chosen me, and I love you with all of my heart," Wiens told Nash at the ceremony. The gathering had about 150 people, according to The Dallas Morning News.
This marriage marks the second for both Wiens and Nash. Both also have kids; Wiens daughter, Scarlette, is 5, while Nash has two children, Samantha, 10, and Lucas, 6.
