'Daredevil' Season 2 Spoilers, Plot News: First Photo Of Elektra Released; Jon Bernthal Talks About The Punisher
Netflix has just released a couple of new images from the forthcoming second season of its Marvel Comics-based web TV series "Daredevil" and one of them features an important character from Matt Murdock/Daredevil's (Charlie Cox) past: Elektra, the mysterious and potentially dangerous woman he once dated.
The character, which was played by Jennifer Garner in the 2005 film "Elektra," will be played by Élodie Yung in the Netflix series. Yung has previously appeared in such films as 2011's "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" and 2013's "G.I. Joe: Retaliation."
Of the role, "Daredevil" showrunner Doug Petrie told Entertainment Weekly, "Matt's a deeply moral complicated guy and she's just the best bad girlfriend you can possibly have." He added: "She does everything wrong and attractive, she's his id, the wild side. Matt is always taming his wild side. Elektra just lets it out. He's both repulsed and deeply drawn to that."
According to EW, the second season of "Daredevil" will get steamier as Murdock/Daredevil (Cox) and Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) get more intimate. Things heat up even more when Elektra (Yung) appears, complicating Murdock's life and his attempts to fight off new villains, including Frank Castle/The Punisher, who will be played by Jon Bernthal of "The Walking Dead" fame.
Bernthal opened up to EW about the role, and said, "People have been coming up to me on the streets of New York saying, 'Do not mess this up.'" The actor has reportedly been walking to the "Daredevil" set alone across the Brooklyn Bridge for months, attempting to get into The Punisher's psychologically troubled persona.
According to Bernthal, The Punisher resonates with military and law enforcement figures because he has internalized the war so much. "And the best thing about him is that if he offends you, he just doesn't care," Bernthal said.
The second season of "Daredevil" premieres in 2016.
