'Daredevil' Season 3 News, Spoilers: Showrunners Discuss What's Ahead for Elektra; Possible 'Jessica Jones' Crossover
The second season of Netflix's "Daredevil" ended with some huge cliffhangers, from the fate of Elektra's (Elodie Yung) corpse to Matt Murdock/Daredevil (Charlie Cox) finally revealing his secret identity to Karen (Deborah Ann Woll).
In its sophomore run, "Daredevil" introduced two iconic Marvel Comics characters: Elektra and Frank Castle/The Punisher (Jon Bernthal). It also had two new showrunners, with Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez taking over from season 1's Steven S. DeKnight.
Petrie and Ramirez recently opened up to The Hollywood Reporter about season 2 and dropped a few hints about what Marvel fans can expect from a potential third season.
Though the pair admitted that they were not at liberty to talk about the future of The Punisher and whether or not the character could get his own Netflix spin-off series, they did hint at what's in the future for Elektra.
In the season 2 finale, Elektra, who was dead and buried, was dug up by the Hand and placed in a stone casket. According to Petrie: "We know that Elektra is the Black Sky. And we know that the Black Sky is a very powerful tool for the Hand. And we know that the Hand is up to no damn good."
The "Daredevil" showrunners also spoke about the surprising "Jessica Jones" cameo in the season finale, in which Foggy (Elden Henson) was offered a job by "Jessica Jones" character Hogarth (Carrie-Anne Moss). With Foggy working for Hogarth, could Jessica Jones and Matt Murdock someday cross paths?
"Those worlds will definitely be overlapping, and we're threading them in as slowly and as carefully as we can weave them," Petrie said.
In an interview with Variety, Ramirez added, "What we hope to not have to do ever is do it just for the sake of making a crossing of paths."
"We hope that the story itself can stand alone," he added.
The second season of "Daredevil" is now streaming on Netflix.
