'Dark Souls 3' DLC Leak: Original 'Dark Souls' Confirmed for Xbox One Backward Compatibility
Microsoft has confirmed that Bandai Namco's original "Dark Souls" title is definitely going to be playable in its current-generation console soon. The title was spotted as a bonus for a "Dark Souls 3" pre-order listing recently.
Redditor fluffyspidernuts first saw the listing at the Australian Xbox Store, which was pulled out afterward. However, those looking at the US Store can see that "Dark Souls" is indeed coming to the console and Microsoft's Larry Hryb can confirm.
"For a limited time, purchase a digital pre-order of DARK SOULS III on the Xbox One Store and get the original Dark Souls playable on Xbox 360, or Xbox One later via Backward Compatibility," announced Hryb, aka Major Nelson.
According to the Xbox Store description, those who pre-order the "Dark Souls III - Deluxe Edition" will receive a code for the original game within 7 to 10 days. It's unclear when players who already own "Dark Souls" will be able to play with it again on their Xbox One consoles. However, Polygon believes it's possible Microsoft could widely release the game to the console once buyers have already received their pre-order codes.
This remains to be seen, but fans should be able to find out as soon as the title becomes available through the Xbox One Backward Compatibility service. Microsoft announced last month that it's scraping the monthly launch schedule and will release titles as soon as they're approved for rollout to the Xbox One.
The "Dark Souls III - Deluxe Edition" pre-order includes the main game and a Season Pass. The latter includes new maps, new bosses, new enemies, and new weapons and armor sets. In addition, the Season Pass will also feature two DLC packs. The Deluxe Edition costs $84.99 and will release on April 12.
"Dark Souls III" continues the RPG action of the previous titles. Meanwhile, an earlier entry to the series, "Dark Souls II," is currently available at a discount under Microsoft's Deals with Gold promotion.
