'Darksiders 2' Coming to PS4 and Xbox One
Nordic Games third-person hack and slash action role-playing video game "Darksiders 2" is getting a next generation version for the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One. The remastered version is going to be released this coming holiday season, according to reports.
This game's version, called "Darksiders 2 Deathinitive Edition" will not be a remastered version of the "Darksiders 2" game, but will also include all of the game's downloadable content, from The Maker Armor Set, Rusanov's Axe, Van Der Schmash Hammer, Fletcher's Crow Hammer, Mace Maximus and Argul's Tomb. Thanks to an improved Graphic Render Engine, the game will be graphical upgrades including the game being able to run in native 1080 pixels. Gameplay and loot distribution is said to have been "rebalanced," according to a report in IGN.
According to Nordic Games' Reinhard Pollice, when they took over the franchise from THQ two years, they were already envisioning a new "large-scale project" based on the franchise. However, they opted to "take care of the existing games and make those available to a broader audience," thus the remastered version for next generation consoles.
Since improvements to the game were mainly in its environmental and character graphics and lighting, the gameplay has not changed. Players will still play one of the Four Horsemen, this time around, it's Death. In the prequel game, "Darksiders," players took on War, Death's brother.
As reported in Polygon, much of the work on the game was done by Gunfire Games, a game developer who assembled a team of people who previously worked on earlier versions of the game. Gunfire Games president David Adams said a lot of the work was on "improving graphics and balancing the game, specifically working on combat to help even out some of the missions."
"One of the first things we did with this version was make some pretty significant rendering changes. We started with graphics and then went through the entire game," he continued.
"Darksiders 2" was originally released in 2012 for the PS3, the Xbox 360 and the PC.
