'DC's Legends of Tomorrow' CW TV Series News: Showrunners Phil Klemmer and Marc Guggenheim Talk About Comic Book Inspirations
Following the casting news of Danish actor Caster Crump and Falk Hentschel as the time-travelling villain Vandal Savage and DC superhero Hawkman, respectively, new additional details emerge with regards to the storyline of The CW's upcoming superhero drama TV series "DC's Legends of Tomorrow."
Executive producer Phil Klemmer told reporters the situation to which the "Arrow" and "The Flash" characters will find themselves in.
"We made the present so screwed up and uninhabitable for these characters that they had to literally get onto a spaceship and go to another time just so they wouldn't be killed either by their friends or enemies," he said.
As to what storyline will the show be based from, showrunner Marc Guggenheim told the publication that he urged the show's writing stuff to rummage for the 2011 Dan Jurgen-penned comic series "Time Masters: Vanishing Point."
"It's a good series for its depiction of Rip Hunter and a crazy combination of characters," Guggenheim explained.
The show will also echo the tone set in Keith Giffen and J.M. DeMatteis' "Justice League International," the executive producer added.
As with the issue of time travel itself, Klemmer spoke with the people over at TV Line, during last month's Comic-Con event, and this is what he said:
"I don't know if we would always be moving to a new time period. I think part of the fun is living in this world and I think when we do travel to these periods of time –even though we have an uber-mission, to stop this sort of future Hitler character [Vandal Savage] – when we try to go back and fix things, we often screw things up."
The executive producer added that it's about "correcting the mistakes that we started in one episode."
"DC's Legends of Tomorrow" is slated to feature the acts of Caity Lotz, as the White Canary; Brandon Routh as Ray Palmer; Wentworth Miller as Captain Cold; and Dominic Purcell as Heat Wave; just to name a few.
The series is slated to premiere 2016.
