DC's 'Shazam!' News: 'This Is Us' Child Star, 'The Walking Dead' Actor Join Upcoming Film
The cast lineup for "Shazam!" continues to expand.
Faithe Herman — a child actress from the hit NBC drama "This Is Us" — is on board the DC standalone movie, a source confirmed to Comicbook.com. It's currently unclear which character she will be playing, but there are speculations that she will portray one of young Billy Batson's (Asher Angel) friends named Darla Dudley.
In the comics, Darla is the youngest member of the group in the home where Billy lived in New 52. Cinemablend notes she first appeared in the alternate Flashpoint timeline, in which she and other children would say "Shazam!" and Billy would transform into Captain Thunder.
Aside from playing Annie Pearson in "This is Us," the young actress' credits include the upcoming "Doe" and "Bodied."
News of Herman's casting comes just two days after Deadline confirmed that Cooper Andrews has joined the movie. "The Walking Dead" star will portray the foster parent at the home where Billy resides. Further details about his character have yet to be revealed.
In addition to the AMC zombie drama, Andrews has worked in various TV shows such as "The Red Road" and "Halt and Catch Fire." He also works behind the scenes as a stunt man for other Hollywood projects.
It has been reported in November that Mark Strong is in talks to play Doctor Sivana, a mad scientist who gains influence and power by using his strange inventions. Fans of the famed DC franchise shouldn't expect the film to feature Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam, though, because he will also be starring in his own solo movie.
Previously announced members of the main cast are Zachary Levi as the titular hero, Jack Dylan Grazer as Freddy Freeman, Jovan Armand as Pedro Peña, Grace Fulton as Mary Marvel and Ian Chen as Eugene Choi.
"Shazam!" is expected to hit the big screen in April 2019.
