'Dead Island 2' news: Release moved to 2016, Techland slams rumors about acquiring game
While the sequel for "Dead Island" has been delayed, it has also been reported that the post-apocalyptic game will finally come to its fans next year.
The "Dead Island 2" team wrote on TwitLonger, "We have always set ourselves a big goal for 'Dead Island 2:' to create the sequel that takes 'Dead Island' to the next level. A game that takes what our fans tell us they love about 'Dead Island' – multiple different characters to play with, co-op, and turning a paradise setting into a zombie slaughter melee – and a game that adds a ton more content and combat options on top of that."
The statement went on to explain that while the team has been focusing all its attention on the game, it has decided that the goals set were not really achieved and this is the reason why the team would rather delay the launch to a 2016 date than provide fans with a game that does not even meet the team's standards.
The team also admitted that it knows fans will be disappointed by the news. However, it argued that "by giving 'Dead Island 2' more time we are confident that everyone will get a better game to play, as a result."
Fans quickly responded to the news on Twitter, some expressed their dismay, while some saw a positive side of the unfortunate delay.
Dead Island 2 is the sequel to 2011's Dead Island and the fourth installment in the series. The next series will be released in a couple of California locations including Los Angeles, San Francisco, and one that has not been announced.
Meanwhile, Techland producer Tymon Smektala has slammed issues that his company is trying to snatch the upcoming game from Deep Silver as he said in a statement through VG24/7 that he is focusing only on "Dying Light: the Following," further clarifying that "the statements [I] made about Dead Island 2 were my personal opinions only and in no way represent views of the studio."
