'Deadpool 2' Director Confirms Brad Pitt Not Playing Cable, Role Still Up For Grabs
Brad Pitt is no longer in the running for the role of Cable in "Deadpool 2." The news was confirmed by the upcoming film's director himself, David Leitch.
Since it was confirmed that the "Deadpool" sequel would feature the time-traveling mutant, fans have been very vocal about who they think the possible portrayer would be. Rumors about the possible portrayer have swirled online, some of which were purely made-up by fans while some coming from legitimate sources.
Last week, reports surfaced that Brad Pitt was being considered for the role. Since a concept art of the actor dressed as Cable came out, fans have constantly linked him to the mutant. The hype was so great that many thought he was finally coming aboard the "Deadpool" sequel. However, the rumors fizzled out just as quickly as they came.
In a recent interview, Leitch confirmed that while the actor was previously in the running, they could not work out a deal with Pitt's camp so 20th Century Fox and the movie's creative team finally decided to move on from the idea of him playing the role. Leitch said they are now looking to cast someone else in the role.
"We had a great meeting with Brad, he was incredibly interested in the property. Things didn't work out schedule-wise. He's a fan, and we love him, and I think he would've made an amazing Cable," said Leitch.
Currently, the Cable role is still up for grabs. Recent reports claim that Michael Shannon is the new frontrunner to land the role. David Harbour and Russell Crowe are also reportedly among the top choices.
"Deadpool 2" is now in pre-production. The sequel will see the return of Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and will introduce new characters: Deadpool's mutant partner, Cable, and X-Force member Domino (Zazie Beetz). The movie is expected to hit theaters in 2018.
