'Deadpool 2' Release Date Rumors: Is 'Deadpool 2' Happening In 2017?
As the release date of "Deadpool" approaches, the movie is getting a lot of attention and hype because of its active promotion, not only through the usual channels but more so through social media such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. The hype surrounding the movie will hopefully translate to big earnings in the box office, just what its producers are hoping for. If it does do well in the box office, a sequel may be slotted in for a 2017 release, according to a report in The Inquisitr.
According to the report, the release of "Deadpool 2" will be clinched if the first movie does better, much better than how the "Fantastic Four" remake did. "Fantastic Four," like "Deadpool," is a Fox franchise which initially had high hopes for its remake but the movie was not well-received by the public. It barely reached its income target so a second film for the franchise is being given a second thought.
"Deadpool" director Tim Miller has already revealed which new characters the sequel will bring in. In a report in Cinema Blend, Miller talked about bringing in Cable who is a sometimes ally of the Merc with a Mouth. His complicated relationship with Deadpool will make for an interesting storyline.
With Cable in the picture, the "X-Men" universe may not be that far behind as Cable is, after all, the son of Cyclops and a clone of Jean Grey, Madelyne Pryor. According to the Inquisitr report, even star Ryan Reynolds hinted at this possible tie-in.
The Inquisitr report also mentioned a possible debut of another new villain called T-Ray. In the comics, he is a sorcerer who affected Deadpool severely, prompting him to "question his own identity."
There is also another point in the comics where Wade encounters Frank Castle, also known as the Punisher. The sequel may possibly look at this angle too.
An earlier report in Daily Super Hero claimed that because of "Fantastic Four's" lacklustre box office performance, Fox may already be considering "Deadpool 2" for the June 9, 2017 release date, which was originally slated for "Fantastic Four 2."
