'Deadpool 2' Spoilers, Cast News Update: Producer Reveals the One Thing They Won't Do in Sequel
Creating follow-ups to blockbuster movies often involve doubling down on what the original had, but this will not be the case for "Deadpool 2."
Producer Simon Kinberg is all too familiar with this line of thinking that sequels should have a bigger helping of the elements that made the first film a hit.
He revealed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that his goal for "Deadpool 2" is for it to simply be "tonally and stylistically as fresh and original," which is where the tricky part lies:
That's a big challenge especially because they had 10 years to gestate on the first movie and we don't have that kind of time on the second movie. That's the biggest mandate going into on the second film: to not make it bigger. We have to resist the temptation to make it bigger in scale and scope, which is normally what you do when you have a surprise hit movie. But actually stay true to the tenets of it's the tone and the style and the humor that make it so special — it's not the explosions and the special effects.
This is also why star Ryan Reynolds believes that David Leitch, who was tapped to direct "Deadpool 2," is perfect for the job as the actor believes he can make the film look like "10 to 15 times what it cost" even with limited budget.
It looks like "Deadpool 2" is on the right track. The sequel is knee-deep into production right now and Rob Liefeld, who created the character, seems to like what he sees and is already singing praises to Josh Brolin for his portrayal of Cable.

He recently took to Instagram to gush about the actor's performance, saying that the producers "hit the bullseye" by casting Brolin to the pivotal role. He went on to write:
Dude is an actor's actor, talent to spare. Josh Brolin as Cable will held in as high regard as Ryan as Deadpool and Hugh as Wolverine. What a treat we have in store for us next summer. As I have said often, wear those brown pants to "Deadpool 2" next summer. They'll come in handy! Thanks to [Reynolds] for bringing this vision to life!
"Deadpool 2" hits the theaters June 1, 2018.
