'Deadpool' Update: Christmas Trailers Released, Colossus Featured
Just a few more weeks until Marvel's upcoming "Deadpool" movie premieres on the big screen. In preparation for that, the superhero film has been making some noise over the holiday season by releasing Christmas-themed trailers as part of the 12 Days of "Deadpool" promotional campaign.
According to Gamespot, the trailer outed on Christmas eve was the penultimate release of the campaign. The campaign finished off with a new full trailer on Christmas Day, according to The Verge. And as expected, the 51-second Christmas eve preview showed Deadpool in a high level of brutal action as he tried to take down tough guys on the highway. Along with him of course are his wisecracks and unusual sense of humor.
The short trailer also featured Colossus who is now voiced and partly performed via motion capture by Serbian actor Stefan Kapicic ("24," "The Event"). As reported by Newsarama, the X-Men character was previously played by Andre Tricoteux. He was replaced by Kapicic at such a short notice because the production wants to bring Colossus closer to his comic book counterpart, giving him a more realistic accent and a look that is closer to how the character is drawn in the comic books.
"Tim Miller's idea of Colossus was to be bigger and stronger than everyone else, so for the motion capture they needed an extremely tall man," Kapicic revealed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. "I'm 6-foot-4, but he wanted Colossus to be over 7 feet, so they used a stunt double to recreate his height, and he did very good job there."
"Deadpool" stars Ryan Reynolds and follows the story of mercenary Wade Wilson who received superhuman healing powers after going through an experimental treatment to cure a terminal illness. The experiment also disfigured his appearance, thus, adopting a distinctive suit. He is out to bring revenge to the people responsible for his condition.
Directed by Tim Miller, "Deadpool" hits theaters on Feb. 12, 2016.
