'Death Stranding' Release Date, Gameplay News: Hideo Kojima Explains Why He Chose Norman Reedus to Star in Game

Just by looking at its cast, Hideo Kojima's "Death Stranding" is undeniably shaping up to be a huge project. Joining the cast of the upcoming role-playing video game are "The Walking Dead's" Norman Reedus, "Hannibal's" Mad Mikkelsen, and director Guillermo del Toro.

As of this writing, little is known about the upcoming video game except for its cast. Produced by Kojima Productions, the video game will focus on the character of Reedus as he deals with supernatural beings. While there is no announcement yet as to when the game will roll out and what its plot is going to be, the first two trailers for the game revealed that Reedus' character will have a difficult time fighting the supernatural creatures coming his way.

Based on the trailer, one of the supernatural creatures in the game is Mikkelsen's character. He will reportedly play the main antagonist of the game. Aside from them and del Toro, no other cast member has been announced yet, although there are rumors that they will be joined by Idris Elba, Emma Stone and Kevin Durand.

In an interview with PlayStation, Kojima revealed that other Hollywood stars had already been tapped to join the project. However, he refused to reveal who they are.

Speaking of the cast, Kojima explained why he chose Reedus to play the role of the protagonist. "When I went independent and I was thinking about my first game in my head, I did see Norman playing this character. The visuals of this character were based on using Norman Reedus as the precedent," he said.

As for its gameplay, the trailers for the game reveal that "Death Stranding" is going to be a "connecting strands" type of game and will be set in a post-dystopian apocalyptic world. It is going to be action-packed, dark, and scary but not to the extent of being a horror story.

"Death Stranding" is slated for release in 2018.
