Demarcus Cousins Has Sore Achilles, Listed Day-to-Day

The Sacramento Kings lost Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Clippers, ultimately losing their star center DeMarcus Cousins early in the game due to a sore right Achilles. Head coach George Karl provided the update after the game, saying that the player was no longer allowed to return to the game for cautionary reasons.

According to NBC sports, coach Karl said that although any Achilles injury is something that every player and team should be worried about, the initial findings reveal that it is just a strain and that a more comprehensive MRI will be taken on Sunday to further examine the extent of the injury.

The 25-year-old center out of Kentucky is one of the best frontcourt players in the NBA, with versatility and skill set that are not usually seen in other big men in the league. But he's no stranger to injuries all throughout his young career. Last season, he suffered a bunch of ankle and leg problems, as well as viral meningitis. However, he still averaged 24.1 points a game and 12.7 rebounds, while also participating in his first-ever All-Star game.

Sacramento hasn't had success in many years now, but Cousins is one of the few bright spots for the rebuilding Kings. The team has not won more than 30 games for seven straight years, something that contributed to the young center's doubts as to whether the team is really interested in contending for an NBA title, or at least a shot at the playoffs.

It is no secret that the Kings will be relying on their big man for years, but he obviously needs help. Good thing is the team reinforced its frontline during the summer, picking 7-footer rookie Willie Cauley-Stein in the draft and adding veteran center Kosta Koufos.

But then again, the Kings' success will depend on whether Cousins can remain healthy this season; if not, Sacramento will again be facing another losing season.
