Denver Broncos News: Roster cuts have opened a chance for Schofield

Denver is trying to finalize their roster.

As the Denver Broncos try to reach the 75-man threshold by Tuesday, there are cuts that have to be made and moves that need to be considered.

And recently, the Broncos organization decided to part ways with outside linebacker Chase Vaughn, fullback Joe Don Duncan, Chris Clark and Tevrin Brandon.

Vaughn was known as a big star at Colorado State-Pueblo, currently holding the school's record for most sacks in a game with 4.5.

At 26 years old, he may still have a chance to make it, unfortunately it won't be with Denver.

For Duncan, his football IQ is undeniable considering the fact that the 24-year-old fullback coached last season at Dixie State.

Brandon was always considered a long shot but his perseverance is a good reminder of how things are.

As for Clark, it shows that no one has a secured spot in the team. He was a starter in Super Bowl XLVIII but is now cut from the Broncos.

The 29-year-old offensive tackle was traded to the Houston Texans for a seventh-round pick in 2016.

This move will help Denver in building for the team and remaining consistent in the future, which also means it should open up new opportunities for those who are waiting in line.

With Clark moving on, Michael Schofield may very well be on the rise.

The Michigan product did not play last season, but with Clark out and coach Gary Kubiak opting for only having seven linemen available on game day, Schofield may have to step up to the plate and deliver.

According to Kubiak, he is optimistic about Schofield. He said in an interview: "We think Michael's done a good job, so we moved from (Clark) and are giving Michael every chance to be the swing guy."

As for Schofield, he knows that his opportunities may be limited and that he should make the most of this chance that he has.

"I was kind of shocked when it happened, but hopefully it works out for him in Houston," the offensive tackle said. "Definitely with Chris gone, I'm going to have to step my game up."
