Denver Broncos NFL Trade and Roster Rumors: Devontae Booker Returns to Practice
It appears that Devontae Booker is inching closer to a return.
The Denver Broncos have confirmed that the second-year running back has participated in practice for the first time since he suffered a fractured wrist during the team's organized team activities (OTAs) back in July. KUSA 9News' Mike Klis was the first to report the news.
Booker missed training camp and he did not play during the preseason after undergoing wrist surgery, so he has to get back in shape.
He will not play in their game against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, Sept. 17, and he remains limited in practice. However, after Thursday's practice, Broncos head coach Vance Joseph said the running back will probably suit up for their week three match against the Buffalo Bills on Sept. 24.
The Broncos will have to split carries among four running backs once Booker returns, but fifth-year pro C. J. Anderson doesn't think that's going to be a problem since there should be enough touches for everyone.
"We just have to get (Booker) in shape; he's up to speed. We just have to get him in football shape. That will come with extra reps and some things that he's doing. When 'Book' comes back, he will be very, very dangerous for us. So, we're excited about that," Anderson said, via ESPN.
"There are always enough carries. People ask if there are enough carries. If you believe you're a playmaker, no matter how many times you touch the ball, make a play," he added.
Anderson and four-time Pro Bowl running back Jamaal Charles should continue to see the majority of the carries, but the Broncos will be glad to have Booker back. Rookie De'Angelo Henderson didn't record a touch when they took on the Los Angeles Chargers last Monday, but he will probably get more chances in the next few games.
