Denver Broncos NFL Trade and Roster Rumors: Jared Crick to Have Back Surgery, Out Indefinitely

The Denver Broncos may have to make do without defensive end Jared Crick for a stretch this season.

Broncos coach Vance Joseph has confirmed that the six-year pro will undergo surgery to repair a disc in his back, and he's going to be out indefinitely.

"He's battled for about three weeks with this injury. He had a great day on Wednesday, he was really sore on Thursday. After further examinations, he needs surgery," Joseph said, via ESPN.

The team has placed Crick on the injured reserve list, and a number of journalists have suggested that he might be done for the year, but Joseph has refused to rule him out for the rest of the season.

"You get two guys you can return from IR, so I wouldn't say it's the season right now," he added.

The Broncos had to shut him down during training camp in August when he started having severe back spasms, and they thought he would be ready to play in their season opener against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sept. 11. Unfortunately, things have taken a turn for the worst and Crick has to go under the knife.

Second-year defensive end Adam Gotsis will have to step up this season with Crick on the sidelines.

The Broncos have decided to sign Ahtyba Rubin as well to add more depth at defensive end. The 10-year pro was released by the Seattle Seahawks earlier this month after they acquired Sheldon Richardson from the New York Jets, and he was on the Broncos' radar before he was cut, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

"You watch the game's tape and he's a big man. As far as the run game, he's very stout and he's got some inside pass rush. I am happy to have the guy, a guy who has played football at a high level with a great defense," Joseph said of Rubin, according to The Denver Channel.
