Denver Broncos NFL Trade Rumors: Controversial Running Back Joe Mixon Visits the Broncos
Oklahoma running back Joe Mixon is definitely a talented man. Nobody can deny that. However, his off-the-field issues may put a major damper on his draft stock.
Back in 2014, Mixon was caught on video punching a woman in the face during his first year with the Sooners. Since he was arrested and charged with misdemeanor assault, Mixon was barred from participating in the scouting combine in late February and early March, and because of that, teams didn't get to meet him.
Well, that didn't stop National Football League (NFL) teams from scheduling meetings with the highly rated prospect. The Detroit Lions, New Orleans Saints, Cincinnati Bengals and Cleveland Browns have already done their due diligence and met with him. Now it's the Denver Broncos' turn.
9News' Mike Klis has reported that Mixon visited the Broncos on Thursday and he spoke with team president Joe Ellis, general manager John Elway, head coach Vance Joseph, and several assistant coaches. Director of player development Ray Jackson was also present during the meeting.
Of course, this does not mean that the Broncos are going to pick him in the draft. Mixon still has a lot of negative baggage, and they will have to decide if he's right for the team.
His agent, Peter Schaffer, doesn't think he's going to cause any problems, though.
"I think he's an outstanding individual. He's been nothing but fantastic every step along the way with me. Everybody who's come in contact with him has come away very impressed with his character and his demeanor and his positive attitude, as well as his love of football as well as his acknowledgement he's made a mistake. I expect the people he meets with will come away with the same feeling.'' Schaffer told 9News.
Perhaps the Broncos should really consider taking the risk and draft Mixon. He's an elite talent and everybody deserves a second chance.
