Denver Broncos Trade Rumors: Elway Says 'It's Not the Intent to Go That Direction' Even If Romo Is Released

The Broncos were supposed to be one of Tony Romo's suitors along with the Houston Texans. However, they might no longer be interested in bringing him over to Denver.

9News' Mike Klis caught up with Broncos general manager John Elway at the annual league meeting in Phoenix, Arizona on Monday and he asked Elway if they would go after Romo if he were to be released next week. Well, the Broncos must be getting tired of waiting for the Dallas Cowboys to release Romo because Elway said "It's not the intent to go that direction."

Elway and Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones have been in Phoenix since last Tuesday because they were part of the National Football League (NFL) competition committee. That means they should have plenty of opportunities to talk about Romo, right? Well, Elway told Klis that they talked about a lot of things, but Romo's name "never came up."

Meanwhile, Elway also spoke with the Denver Post's Nicki Jhabvala on Monday and he reiterated that they did not talk about Romo with the Cowboys. He said the team would continue to focus on developing their young quarterbacks instead.

"Nope. Same old thing. He's still under contract with the Cowboys. Like we've said, we really feel good about the two young ones that we have. Trevor (Siemian) did a good job for us last year and Paxton (Lynch) was young. The plan is to stay the course there and see what's available in the (April 27–29) draft. We'll go from there," Elway said during the interview.

According to ESPN's Jeff Darlington, Romo has already narrowed down his choices to either the Houston Texans or retirement, so it sounds like the Broncos are no longer in the running for the veteran quarterback. Of course, they can still change their minds if the Cowboys release Romo, but the Broncos are not going to wait for that to happen.
